Life Outside Economics

Fishing, backpacking, and spending time in the mountains. Most of it documented in too many Google Photos albums.

An album of every fish I photographed, year by year.

๐Ÿ† Utah Cutthroat Slam

I completed the Utah Cutthroat Slam twice in 2016. The Slam requires catching all four native cutthroat trout species of Utah โ€” Bonneville, Bear River, Yellowstone, and Colorado โ€” in their native ranges in a single season. Proceeds support cutthroat trout restoration projects across the state.

My colleagues Mike, Rulon, and I attempted the first slam in a single day, leaving at 6:15am and working through all four native ranges before dark. The Bonneville came first from a beaver pond, the Bear River followed in a brisk canyon stream, and we finished with the Yellowstone and Colorado further south. Mike and I each completed the slam; Rulon caught the largest fish of the day.

The second slam followed later that same year, and the whole experience ended up getting some outside coverage.
